Description:
Shadowrun Returns is a cyberpunk fantasy tactical role-playing video game under development by Harebrained Schemes, an indie game publisher led by Jordan Weisman, the creator of the Shadowrun tabletop role-playing game.
Game Play:
Shadowrun Returns features a turn-based tactical combat system that has been described as similar to that of X-com: Enemy Unknown. During runs the player control the customizable main character and up to 3 additional hireable NPC runners, as well as shaman-summoned spirits and rigger-controlled drones. Characters can take cover behind walls and objects in the environment to gain an additional measure of protection. Fog of war hides the enemies and their actions from view until the player's team has line of sight on them. It is also possible for the player to gain sight of the enemies by using a a drone.
During combat each character has a number of action points (AP) which determine how many actions he or she can take each turn. Characters begin with a base of 3 AP, with the ability to permanently gain AP by getting Wired Reflexes, skill advancement, or temporarily increase AP by using certain magic spells or drugs. Ammunition for firearms is unlimited but characters must spend an action point to reload whenever a clip runs out.
Plot:
The year is 2054 and your old friend Sam has been murdered in Seattle. You've been hired by Sam's sister Jessica to find the killers and bring them to justice, one way or another. Soon you'll be embroiled in a mystery that expands from victims missing organs, an antagonistic detective, and biker gangs all the way up to the dynastic control of one of the world's largest Megacorps.
